Many homeschooling families use the Saxon Math curriculum and are quite impressed with it. The lady in the following video gives a short review of the curriculum. Please be advised that it is not necessary to buy the early grade texts for grades 1-3. Have your young child learn their numbers (and how to write them as numbers and words), shapes, colors and basic math facts: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division using flash cards, worksheets and practice speed drills. For manipulatives, you can use pennies, beans, buttons and blocks for example. Once they have mastered their basics, they can start at Saxon Math 5/4 (4th grade level text). You will need the student text, solutions manual and the book of worksheets & tests. These can be purchased separately, or as a complete set. Do not buy direct from publisher; too expensive. Purchase these materials from Amazon.
